11 March Club Day Race Report

Sundays’ club day saw somewhat smaller numbers than the last meeting. Due particularly to the first round of Top Half being held in Tokoroa the previous night. Results of this event will be available in the next day or three.

Several club members still made the effort and made it to Sundays event despite only a few hours sleep between finishing one meeting & starting the next – we do breed ‘em tough at KartSport Auckland!

One of those that trekked to Tokoroa then fast trekked it home for Sunday was Kaitlyn Wonnacott. Kaitlyn won the Cadet class on Sunday from Aimee Rutherford and Taylor Harte. Taylor made a trek of his own – all the way from Whakatane and representing the Eastern Bay of Plenty Club.

Junior Restricted saw Shaun Grocock & Oliver Pykett battle it out for honours with Shaun prevailing this time round. James Wood was third and Taylor’s EBOP club mate Joey Roia took fourth.

Formula Junior & Junior Yamaha ran together on the track at this meeting; Mitchell Pykett & Michael Bird fought each other in Formula J With Jake Bonney up there also, while it was Tim Vickers & Levi Madsen-Prinn doing the same in Junior Yamaha.

Club Class, as always, was a treat to watch. These guys have so much fun with each other off the track that it reflects on track as well. They are the advertisement for having fun in karting. Perennial Dennis Nicols, who we just don’t see enough of!, took the win from Shaun Curran and Todd Jolly. Shaun, you need to bite the bullet & take that step up into Senior Yamaha. Todd, who has returned to the track after quite a break chose to run from ROF – and finished third overall – well done!

Lights & Heavys were together on the track in Senior Yamaha. Deon Forrest, requested to run from ROF for the day and still proceeded to clean up Lights – 4 wins and a second. Ryan Ashwood, last club days winner, took second and Scott Sample finished third. Wonderful to see Scott back on the track – although his services as starter were missed. Take care of the back, Scott; on track really is where we would like to see you.

Brendon Smith won the Heavys from Ben Halliday.

James Jackson was our only Open entry for the day so we stuck him off the front off all the Rotax’s. James had some mechanical issues through the day and hopefully has them sorted for his next outing. Fred Onrust won the Lights with 5 wins from 5 starts. Andrew Jackson was second and Glen Green, newly moved from Yamaha, took third.

Whitney Claxton had to play second fiddle to her Dad, Garry, this weekend. Whitney finished fourth in Lights, but Dad got a third place in Heavys behind Anthony Murch and Grant Wilson.
