After rain on Saturday night the weather held good for Sunday’s club day. Club Captain Paul Dunkley officiated Drivers Briefing and had a few of you fooled with the reverse direction speel. Sorry peoples, it’s a wee way away yet.
The Cadet class saw a good turn out of 11 drivers and the girls ruled again. Kaitlyn Wonnacott & Aimee Rutherford ran first & second respectively all day, except for one race when Aimee failed to get started. Jack Barker also had a DS but managed to hold 3 rd place overall on countback from Rhys Tinney representing the Hamilton Kart Club.
We only had two unrated drivers in the Cadet class; Cameron McVeigh & Cam Dance. So, instead of running them on their own we stuck them in with the rest of the Cadet hoard – and they did really well!!
It was a clean sweep for Jamie Lane in Junior Restricted – following in Dads footsteps is this lad! Shaun Grocock was second & Samantha Lewis third.
Shaun’s a keen young man; was in Blenheim on Saturday for a family wedding but managed to convince Dad to get him home early Sunday in time to race. And congratulations to Samantha for achieving her C-Rating.
Junior Yamaha was quite small in numbers so we ran them off the back off Formula Junior – gave them something to chase! Ashley Blewett won the day, despite a flip in the final – hope you’re OK Ashley – from Levi Madsen-Prinn, Adam Davis and Danny Keene.
Joel Thrupp and Matthew Griffin dominated Formula Junior, finishing first & second. These two lads are at the same school so look out on May 13 th, they’ll be a team to be reckoned with. Graham Ball finished third for the day making this class a clean sweep for Mt Wellington representatives.
Gary Taylor, who is normally running around after son Phil, had his turn on the track this weekend in Club Class – and won it!! Well done. Todd Jolly, still back from the wilderness – stay with us Todd!, finished second and Club Class stalwart Colin Lewis finished third. The Lewis father & daughter team both having top three finishes in their classes.
Senior Yamaha Lights & Heavys ran together on the track this weekend – Brad Curtin was our only Heavy so we made him the greyhound and all the Lights were rabbits.
It was the ‘new boys on the block’ who took out this class. Matthew Sloper and Ryan Ashwood, recently moved up from the Junior ranks, took out first & second and Michael Boyle finished third. Phil Green had his first skid for 2007 stepping up from Club Class; Phil, Blair Holdom and Heather Comer all went into the final on the same points. Phil ended up the meat in the sandwich – Blair was fourth, Phil fifth and Heather sixth. It was nice to have young gun Richard Moore running this class on a club day. I guess it was final prep for Nationals. Richard only started one race – and didn’t finish it. Bugger! Hope you get it sorted for Easter, Richard.
What a great turnout of Rotax’s we had on Sunday – nine in Lights & six in Heavys. We let these guys run separately – they weren’t really in to the greyhound/rabbit thing.
Richard Moore made up for the Yamaha issues in the Rotax Lights. He was chased all day by Adam Wakeling but in the end didn’t have to contest the final to take the overall win. James Robertson took third place – he drove a great final – from Emily McVeigh and Ashley Ball.
Another young man who drove well all day was David Waldmeyer in winning the Rotax Heavy class. Dion Kendall was second & Garry Claxton third. Congratulations to Warren Parris for gaining his C Rating and Race Control apologises for flashing Dion. They couldn’t help themselves!
In Open Class we welcomed three drivers from the Formula S Club; Malcolm Harwood, Paul Parker and Mike Gould. We would have had four but Steve Brown gave the day to his two boys in the Cadet Class. Alex McClennan didn’t just win this class – he blitzed it! Five from five. Wayne Conder took second & Thomas Parsons third.
