Due to the track being unavailable at our Rosebank Domain complex Auckland Club, relocated for our first club day of 2010 to Mt Wellington club’s track on Tainui Rd. Our thanks go out to the Mt Welly club for making their facilities available to us for the weekend.
For many of us it was the first chance of catch up with karting friends since Christmas; such a LONG time ago, it seemed. But, the day was fine & clear & racing hard & fast so a pretty good day was had by all.
A sign that the sport & our club is still growing was the fact that UnRated Cadets ran on their own on Sunday; enough of them to make their own class. Connor Sheehan took the honours from Jack Proctor & Sam Wright – pretty sure we’ll see these youngsters without their X-Plates in the very near future.
A top class of Cadets took to the track & provided some very exciting & entertaining racing. Lachlan Smith, coming off a challenging CIK campaign, was the mover & shaker in this class with an ‘all but’ clean sweep. Conceding just one heat win to Sebastian Bainbridge, Lachlan took the overall honours from Sebastian with Alex Edwards in third.
Awesome field of JR’s on Sunday; but Logan Roger-Jenkins pretty much had the measure of the competition taking the days win from Joe Ganley & Kaitlyn Wonnacott.
Formula Junior & Junior Yamaha were on track together; Formula J saw a great battle between Aaron Wilson & Emilee Wright, with Aaron prevailing by just one point overall from Emilee with Jonathon Buxeda in third. Kaleb Currie won Junior Yamaha convincingly from Nicholas Carpenter and Joel Herbert.
All the Senior Yamaha’s ran together on the track, and it was a great welcome back to Scott Sample in Lights with four from four in the heats. Scott feeling the pinch in lots of out of practice muscles & choosing not to run the final, but taking the overall win anyway from Nigel Kurtz & Bruce Reid. Club Class honors went to Todd McCormack from Peter Stacey & Scott Glenn.
Some close racing in Rotax Light saw Sean Sparg take a narrow overall victory from Dion Hubers & Nigel Lucas.
Rotax Heavy ‘Man On Fire’ was Mark Dixon; his secret breakfast should be patented later this year. Mark took the class win from Craig Finnemore & Colin Lewis.
