Auckland/Mt Wellington InterClub 2009

What an awesome awesome day!!

133 Drivers!!!!

And look who came out of the woodwork!!!!

It was great to see all the new faces at Auckland and to welcome back some of those we haven’t seen for a while.

It was a great field of Cadets; so much so that we had to run an extra heat under the over-subscribed system. This can be a bit daunting & confusing the first time you strike it but everyone got the hang of it.

It was great racing too, with the points really close; Alex Edwards taking the win from Chelsea Herbert & Lachlan Smith.

CJ Sinclair led the way for Mt Welly in the JR class, closely followed by more Mt Wellies in the form of Taylor Cockerton & Joel Herbert. Joe Ganly was the first Aucklander home in fourth place.

Mt Welly was to the fore again in Junior Yamaha in the form of Daniel Colville & Paul Blomqvist; Daniel taking the days win comfortably but Paul just making it on count back form Aucklands Michael Scott.

Bradley Hicks had the most on track wins in Formula J but it was Aucklands wee rocket Aaron Wilson taking the days win from Rollo Davies with Bradley in third.

In Club Class the ratio was three Mt Welly drivers to one Auckland. But Auckland had Sharn Connor! Sharn won the day from the Mt Welly reps Scott Glenn & Todd McCormack.

If the Club Class ratio was daunting think of Steven Currie who was on his own in Yamaha Heavy with 5 Aucklanders. Steven, unfortunately, had a dreadful day. It was a close points battle up front with Dion Kendall winning by just one point from Brendon Smith with Leyton Kendall in third.

Nigel Kurtz was out on his own in Yamaha Light taking the win from Danny Keene & Louise Franklin.

It was a strong field of Rotax Lights that hit the track & the racing was both fast & furious. Jake Pascoe won from Michael Wheaton who maintained 2 nd by count back from Simon Evans with Kane Taylor just a couple of points further back in 4 th.

Rotax Heavy was also a strong field. Anthony Murch led the way to the finish post from Peter Ball with Colin Lewis & Cameron Dennis fending off a host of Mt Welly drivers for the minor placings.

Ryan Grant & Graeme Smyth were out on there own in Senior Open with Graeme taking the days win from Ryan with Daniel Eggleton third.

The Inter-Club Honours went to Auckland by a narrow margin of just 4 points.

Congratulations go out to all drivers from both clubs that made this event such a great success.

Next year will see the challenge being held at the Mt Wellington club.
