Club Day 12 July 2009

While many of our drivers from the junior ranks were swanning about in the Hawkes Bay at the Schools Nationals a hardened few in the City of Sails were making like ducks at Rosebank Domain. We are led to believe that the weather in the sunny Hawkes Bay was as atrocious as what we experienced.

Consequently, numbers were down; both racing classes & officials/helpers.

With regard to the officials/helpers department thanks go to the competitors & your crews for stepping up – not once did a call have to out for a flag point to be manned in any class in any race. Well Done!

To the ladies in the café, that were “roped in”, to keep us fed & watered – thank you. Dom, rest assured we were in good hands while you were away.

While all the ‘guns’ were away our very depleted Cadet field still had a pretty neat day (we’re forgetting all about weather issues here – OK!) As well as gaining really good experience in the weather that we’re not going to mention each driver had a win. Brodie Cox, who has grown something like a good 8 inches since last race day, won the class with Steve Barker 2 nd & Nathan Sudiono 3 rd.

JR’s were much the same situation as the Cadets, with the big girls & boys away. Finley McLaren won the day, taking the first couple of heats to get organized then winning the last two. Reid Harker won the first two heats then dropped off, but held second place overall from Luke Dobbs & Arran Crighton. Arran showing a great measure of skill to get his kart out of a ‘bog’ when he had an oops at Death Valley. Hopefully Mum couldn’t see!

We started out with a pretty reasonable Junior Yamaha/Formula J class – then they all disappeared! Samantha Lewis won Formula J and Jack Barker Junior Yamaha.

In the senior ranks, whom all ran together on track, we welcomed a couple of visitors; Josh Eva, up from Christchurch & Mitchell Beach from Hamilton. It was Mitchells first visit to Auckland – why did he wait so long?

Club Class went to our Chch visitor, Josh, with Luis Cachero second & Scott Glenn third. Danny Keene won Yamaha Light from Michael Andresen (welcome back!) with Nigel Kurtz in third and Yamaha Heavy went to Adam Davis, racing all on his lonesome.

In Rotax Light, Mitchell Beach took the honours from Andre Elliot who had a miserable time with mechanical issues.

Rotax Heavy was exciting! It’s not that often we have tied placings in karting but on Sunday Warren Parris & Anthony Murch could not be separated – First Equal!! Cameron Dennis was third, followed by Colin Lewis.
