St Kentigern College prevailed once again in the teams section of the Auckland Area Schools KartSport Championship held on Sunday.

Winning team members Jake Pascoe and Ben Dallas both won their respective classes, Senior Rotax Light and Senior Yamaha Light.

The Auckland Grammar team of Tom Blomqvist and Mitchell Pykett finished second and the Rosehill College pairing of Joel Thrupp and Matthew Griffin took third.

Albany Primary School dominated the cadet class with team mates Kaitlyn Wonnacott and Joel Herbert taking first and second placings and the Primary/Intermediate teams title.

St Kentigern School took second place in the form of Mitchell Evans and Paul Blomqvist and Tirimoana Primary’s Aimee Rutherford and Hayden Hart finished third.

The Cadet class saw thirteen drivers aged 8-10years battle it out for this years’ honours. Albany Primary’s Kaitlyn Wonnacott prevailed over team mate Joel Herbert with Stephen Kelly managing to hold on to third place overall.

Junior Restricted saw Pukekohe High Schools Daniel Colville step up to the challenge from New Zealand #1 Arie Hutton from Kings School. Colville did not finish any race outside the top three and took the title from Hutton, with St Kentigern Schools Paul Blomqvist in third.

Despite the withdrawal, due to injury, of current National title holder Mathew Kinsman from Junior Yamaha the class of this field was not diminished. Mitchell Evans backed up his 2006 Junior Restricted title with this years Junior Yamaha by winning all four heats. Tom Blomqvist finished second and Northcote College’s Tim Vickers took out third.

In Formula Junior, the largest class of the day, Tim Vickers and Tom Blomqvist, New Zealand #1 and #3 respectively, had to fight off the challenge from Joel Thrupp for honours. This time round it was Blomqvist taking the title from Vickers with Thrupp in third.

Ben Dallas and Rutherford Colleges Graeme Smyth shared the front running in Senior Yamaha Light and it was Dallas that prevailed, successfully defending his 2006 title from Smyth with Ashley Blewett from Rangitoto College in third.

St Kentigern Colleges Jake Pascoe and Simon Evans along with Elliot Osborne from Selwyn College battled out Senior Rotax Light sharing the top three placings in each race. Pascoe had the edge, however, and won this years title from Evans and Osborne.
