Before I started to put this report together I went back in the archives & checked out last years first round of Burger Fuel. In relation to this years Round 1 it makes for interesting reading. The weather last year was horrid - as it has been every where in the last 8-or so weeks passed - but Sunday was lovely. Methinks a lot of the smiles seen on Sunday morning were solely because the sun was shining.
Last year we had enough numbers in Un-Rated Cadets for these guys to have their own class. Not so this year. It is our 2007 Un-Rated Cadet class winners that are the front runners in this years Cadet Class. Joe Ganley took the first round win from Jacob Smith & Alex Edwards. Overall points are close so round two should be exciting.
The first of the days clean sweeps went to Kaleb Currie in Junior Restricted; Kaleb continuing the good form he demonstrated at the Top Half final round a week or two ago. Kaitlyn Wonnacott battled all day with CJ Sinclair on track & edged CJ out to take second place overall by one point.
Junior Yamaha saw Nicholas Carpenter in this class for the first time, having moved up from JR. It took Nicholas the first race to come to grips with it all then no-one saw which way he went! Nicholas took the round win from Adam Davis & Jack Barker.
The second of the weekends clean sweeps went to Scott Reddish in Formula Junior. Jake Bonney took second place & Shaun Varney third.
We stuck all the Senior Yamahas - Light, Heavy & Club - together on track for this first round of Burger Fuel. Leyton Kendall had a clean sweep within the Heavy Class but on track he was chasing a couple of the Lights. Second in Yamaha Heavy was Alan Dunkley & third, Colin Lewis. Lights went to Deon Forrest from Matt Wallace & Phil Green and Club Class to Scott Maynard from Stephen Loomes & Sharn Connor.
There was some exciting racing on view from all these classes.
Unlike 2007 our Rotax Class numbers were well healthy - 10 competitors in Lights & 14 in Heavy’s. It was Alan Sherris & Whitney Claxton sharing the front running in Lights with Alan taking the day by just one point from Whitney. A few points back was Sean Sparg taking third, also by just one point, from Jimmy Wong in fourth. The Heavy’s, as they so often do, provided some really close racing. So much so that first place went to countback - the win going to Steve Cox from Garry Cullum - both on 124 points. Just a further 2 points back, Garry Claxton took third spot.
Open Class honours went to Graeme Smyth from Jody Vincent & Joel Thrupp.
