2009 Burger Fuel 500 - Round 1

What a great turnout we had for the first round of this years’ Burger Fuel 500. The weather was stunning and the racing great. It was a shame that the timing system was not operating because it looked as though there were some fast laps being put in.

Alex Edwards had his work cut out in the Cadet class with Amy Smith breathing down his neck and really taking the battle to the wire. Alex won this first round despite a visit to the kitty litter in heat four with Amy 2 nd & Dylan Smith 3 rd.

Junior Restricted saw some exciting racing too; Kaleb Currie giving an awesome display of negotiating his way through traffic and winning the day from Joe Ganley & Kaitlyn Wonnacott who had some very close racing.

Formula Junior & Junior Yamaha were on track together; Daniel Connor had a reasonably comfortable overall win from Aaron Wilson in Formula J but it was a much closer battle in Yamaha between Reid Harker & Shaun Grocock. These two going into the final race tied on points with the final result determining the overall win on count back. Reid prevailed, with Shaun 2 nd and Nichloas Carpenter 3 rd.

Also on track together were the Senior Yamaha classes; Lights went to Nigel Kurtz with a clean sweep from best buddy Scott Burkhart with Jason Butterworth, back from overseas, in 3 rd. Heavys saw The Brothers Kendall tied on points after the final race with the win going to Dion on countback due to better consistency & through the day. Adam Davis was 3 rd with Sharn Connor 4 th. Club Class went to Michael Andresen from Luis Cachero & James Maddox.

Open class ran off the front of Rotax Lights with the win going to Brett Hollander. Rotax Light went to Sean Sparg from Shaun Varney & Andre Elliot.

Rotax Heavy was the largest class of the day and the competition was stiff. Anthony Murch took a hard fought win from Garry Cullum in 2 nd & Nick Moyle in 3 rd.
