A wet day greeted everyone for the second round of the Burger Fuel Series but the enthusiasm wasn’t dampened. Special thanks go to Brett, Rebecca & Sue for taking on the starting duties - Brett with a broken collar bone & several ribs! Thanks again to Michelle who joined the team in Race Control who were again back on the manual system. The timing system is expected to be back up & operational in time for our next meeting.
Great racing was put on by the Cadets; Amy Smith turned the tables on round 1 winner Alex Edwards by winning this round and the series overall.
It must’ve been the weekend for the girls to step up to the plate because Kaitlyn Wonnacott sure gave Kaleb Currie a run for his money in Junior Restricted. Kaleb hanging on to the days win on countback & thus ensuring his win in the series also. Jonathon Buxeda Took third for the day with Joe Ganley third in the series.
In a very diminished Formula Junior class, Daniel Connor finished the series in front of Samantha Lewis. Junior Yamaha was a much closer battle between Reid Harker & Shaun Grocock for the series win with these two lads going into this round with tied overall points. Rollo Davies, who did not contest round 1, won the class for round 2 from Shaun & Reid and Shaun won the series.
Club Class was also one with diminished numbers; Michael Andresen & Luis Cachero finishing 1-2 in both round 2 & the series.
With the absence of Nigel Kurtz, the series leader from round 1, Yamaha Light was thrown wide open. Jason Butterworth won round 2 & subsequently the series from Scott Burkhart. Louise Franklin didn’t have as good a day as her first round but points wise it was enough to hold out for third place in the series. In Yamaha Heavy Leyton Kendall had the measure of brother Dion this time round; winning both round 2 and the series from Adam Davis.
Rotax Lights’ Sean Sparg & Shaun Varney had battled it out in round 1 and the close contest continued in the final round. It was Shaun Varneys turn for the round win but Sean Sparg held on to his narrow points margin & won the series.
Rotax Heavy, again the largest class on track, saw epic battles all day with drivers trying to gain supremacy. The days win went, narrowly, to Nick Moyle from the two Garrys - Cullum & Claxton. Overall for the series it was Garry Cullum from Nick Moyle & Cameron Dennis.
The Burger Fuel 500 Grand Prix, with a $500 prize purse was contested by the Rotax heavy class and a very popular win was achieved by Cameron Dennis.
The $500 class winner prize draw went to Kaleb Currie in Junior Restricted.
