Well, the weather was rubbish.
It rained. And it rained.
And, believe it or not, it rained some more…..
Congratulations to all you intrepid racers that made the pilgrimage to this years Club Champs, despite the inclement weather conditions.
It has been said that the wet is a leveler. And, it did level some of you!
And for others, it made no **^$#@ difference at all!!
In Cadet Class girlz ruled again!! Kaitlyn Wonnacott – 4 from 4 taking out the title & Aimee Rutherford following close behind for 2 nd place.
The hard luck story of the day went to Thomas McLean.
The tough-nut award went to Marieke Smith who had a wee trip in the ambulance but still fronted up to the grid for the very next race. They breed ‘em tough in West Auckland!
Junior Restricted – what a buzz!! Aaron Wilson, just moved up from Cadet - & National & Island title holder in that class; Andy Schofield, new member to Auckland who has done awesome over the recent Top Half Series rounds and William Grant, who we all thought had retired - and so young!
These three dominated the front running in this class.
Junior Yamaha – the smallest field we have seen in this class for some years at Club Champs. Where have all the Juniors gone? To Seniors!! Obviously!!
The quality was there though. Multiple Island & National Champs all in the top four finishers.
Mathew Kinsman made it three years in a row for this title – you must be next for the move to senior ranks, Mat. Tim Vickers took out second, & Daniel Kinsman third.
Formula Junior – another buzz! This class has not been contested for the past couple of years so it was great to see it on the track this weekend. Current National title holder, Tim Vickers, stamped his name all over this one; 4 wins from 4 starts. Declan Hull took second & Scott Reddish third.
Club Class – where the ‘’seniors’’ come out to play. Phil Green pla yed hard & fast – it was his day. Shaun Curran – who isn’t a ‘’senior’’ – took out second & long time club campaigner, Colin Lewis finished third. Milan Borich finished fifth for the day, no mean feat – he ran off ROF. Congrats to Milan – he now has his “C” rating.
Hey – was #13 in a new CRG?? It looked smart.
Deon Forrest, once again, dominated Senior Yamaha Light. The man was unstoppable! And we all thought Deon didn’t race when it was wet!!
Michael Boyle picked up second & Matt Wallace third. Welcome back – again – Ryan Wilson who finished fourth.
Senior Yamaha Heavy went to Leyton Kendall – a well earned victory. Jared MacKenzie took second & Dion Kendall third.
The Senior Rotax classes ran together on the track. Lights developed into a battle of the titans between Daniel Kent & Kane Taylor, with Daniel prevailing. Heavys was a clean sweep by Brent Gilchrist over Brad Curtin, who was originally mistaken for a Yamaha. Whoops!!
Open Class went, yet again, to Ryan Grant. A multiple National & Island title holder, Ryan proved his class in winning from Richard Vickers & Jason Farmilo.
The final race of the day was the Open Grand Prix – all senior drivers, regardless of class, eligible to compete. Generally, it is an Open Class kart that wins this event, but not always! Last year, it was a Yamaha KT100.
This year the general rule prevailed with Ryan Grant taking the win.
