What a really really neat day Sunday was!!
Considering it nearly wasn’t.
It is an uncomfortable fact that our sport requires qualified people in certain areas for an event to happen - even just a lowly ole club day. Our qualified peoples are wearing thin.
We owe huge thanks to Maylene Robbie, trekking down from Whangarei at the crack of dawn and Bob Cunningham for both attending our club day as track officials and ensuring that the meeting went ahead. Stalwarts Don Hedges & Scott Sample made up the rest of the team as they so regularly do. Much appreciated and thank you.
We had enough numbers in Cadets to run the un-rated’s on their own. Brodie Cox took the day s win from Kayal Rohrlach, at his first ever race meeting, and Danjela Haigh.
Brad Wilson slipped in the first heat of Cadets & finished third; from then on he couldn’t be pegged back & won all the following heats. Brad took the days win from Nathan Reid and Alex Edwards.
Awesome close racing in the Junior Restricted class came from Bradley Hicks, Stephen Kelly and Aaron Wilson. Bradley & Aaron are also battling it out in the Top Half Series and it was Bradley winning on Sunday from Stephen and Aaron in third.
Jack Barker, recently moved into Junior Yamaha from JR looks like he’s coming to grips with the extra horsepower; Jack took the class win from Chris Donovan and Chad Elliston.
If the JR’s had close racing, the Formula Juniors were as good, if not a wee bit better.
Mitchell Pykett and Adam Davis had a couple of real close battles - & when they weren’t expecting it Jake Bonney poked his nose in too!! All clean & tidy and great to watch.
Mitchell took the days honours from Adam with Jake in third and Shaun Varney in fourth.
In Club Class this weekend we had our hallowed club treasurer return to track; the man was on fire!! And quick!! The regulars will be sending him back to the counting house to concentrate on the pennies. So, it was Scott Burkhart taking the win from Shaun Curran and Scott Maynard.
The pace was sort of on in Senior Yamaha Light and it was really on in Senior Yamaha Heavy. We had these two classes on track together. Give those heavies and inch - and they’ll pass all the lights who started in front of them!! Heard a wee rumour about pies….
Anyway, Todd Jolly - the club class burglar who needs to decide what class he’s gonna race - won Lights from Ben Covich and Nigel Kurtz. Jared MacKenzie won Heavy’s from Leyton Kendall and Brendon Smith.
Our Rotax Heavy class is just growing & growing. Thirteen ‘gentleman drivers’ on Sunday. The competition on the track was great. Anthony Murch won the day from Steve Cox and Cameron Dennis. But no-one could catch Albert Rohrlach, up from Hamilton for the weekend, in Rotax Light. Albert won the class from Travis Taylor and Garry Cullum.
Open Class also ran on Sunday; Thomas Parsons Taking the win from David Munro and Brett Hollander.
