Club Day 1 June 2008

Pea-soup fog greeted those of us up before the crack of dawn on Sunday, but it soon cleared and the rain that threatened periodically throughout the day held off until the last kart in the last race reached pit chute.

How was that for organisation!!

Speaking of organisation; the club was fortunate that a few people stepped up & into new shoes and made sure that the day went ahead with all the normal facilities available to competitors. We thank you.

The meeting ran exceptionally smoothly and enabled us to increase the laps in the finals – credit to all you drivers for being organised (there’s that word again!) in getting to the grid and racing clean on the track.

First class on the track were our twelve Cadets; Great to see Hayden Hart back on track, Hayden finished in third spot behind Finley McLaren and Jacob Smith.

Only two JR’s in attendance this time but what a battle Luke Dobbs and David Anderson had! It was some of the best racing of the day with the pair of them passing each other multiple times in nearly every lap. Luke won the day from David but congratulations to you both.

There were good fields in both the Junior Yamaha and Formula Junior classes with Nick Cassidy and Adam Davis having an especially busy day running both classes.

Nick was keeping it even in both classes – having an Oops in each – but with four wins from five starts in both classes he won both overall.

A consistent Jack Barker was second in Yamaha with Adam Davis in third.

There were some close battles for the minor placings in Formula Junior between Sean Hurley second, Jake Bonney third, and Shaun Varney fourth.

Senior Yamaha and Club Class ran together on the track and this was another group that provided some great racing. Yamaha Light and Club Class winners came from the Taylor-O’Dell family camp with Phillip taking Lights & Michael winning Club. Michael was regularly posting the fastest times on track as well!! Second & third in Lights were Blair Holdom and Nigel Kurtz and in Club Class it was Kevin Richards in second and Todd McCormack in third. Leyton Kendall won Heavys from Colin Lewis.

Rotax Heavy, again, was a good size field and, again, no-one had an answer for Anthony Murch who won all heats bar one – and then he was second!! Steve Cox is driving well and he took out second overall from Josh Hookway in third. Fourth was Jarred Reid.

Rotax Lights saw Mt Wellington clubmates dominate the class. Paul Read and Travis Taylor pretty much sharing one/two all day. Paul won the day overall from Travis with Sam Dyson in third and Ross Flexman in fourth.

Our club contingent of KZ2 lads have been absent from our club days due to traipsing around the countryside with the Shifter Series – where they’re all doing really well!! They (nearly) all rocked up on Sunday for a skid and roped in James Jackson from Mt Welly to come for a play as well. The days win went to Ryan Grant from Graeme Smyth and Jason Farmilo, with Shaun Wotherspoon in fourth.
