The Un-Rated Cadet Class took this club day by storm. Eleven lads & lasses took to the track, several of them having their first ever competition drive. This is the beginning of the next generation. Brad Wilson took the class win with 5 from 5 – he’ll be moving up to the Cadet Class real soon. Jacob Smith & Joe Ganley filled the second & third spots. This entire class of competitors must be congratulated for the improvement that each & every one of them achieved through the day.
Sorry boys, but in the Cadet Class the girls are still ruling! Another clean sweep by Kaitlyn Wonnacott for overall honours with Aimee Rutherford taking second & Michael De Ponte third.
A good field of JR’s battled for the days honours with the top three placings all finishing the day on 11 points. With the countback system applied Bradley Hicks took the overall win from Jack Barker & Shaun Grocock.
The Junior Yamaha Class were competing for the Motul Junior Yamaha Challenge Cup. With only three competitors this class ran with the Formula Junior Class on the track. Adam Davis won the class with a clean sweep of all five races and managed to get his Yamaha up & mixing it with the Formula J’s. Danny Keene was second & Chris Donovan, in his first race meeting, finished third.
Formula Junior was another good sized field. Scott Reddish, aside from a hiccup in heat one, didn’t finish outside the top 2 & took the days win from Nick Cassidy & Sean Sparg.
Yet another clean sweep went to Todd Jolly in Club Class – the man was flying!! Milan Borich took second place & just one point back was Nigel Kurtz in third.
Senior Yamaha ran together on the track. Brendon Smith took out the days honours in Heavys with 5 from 5 & Matthew Sloper won the Lights. Two former Club Class perennials, Phil Green in Lights and Colin Lewis in Heavys finished 2nd & 3rd in their respective classes & it was great to see Scott Sample back on the track receiving the chequered flag instead of giving it. Scott finished third in the Lights class.
With the absence of many Rotax & Shifter class drivers these three classes also ran together on the track. Open saw John Lovich, in only his second outing in his KZ2, take the days win from Thomas Parsons in his 250cc. Rotax Light went to Adam Wakeling – yep, another 5 from 5 – from Glen Green and Jody Vincent. Rotax Heavy went to Anthony Murch from Warren Parris; with Cameron Dennis, in his first race day, finishing third.

Our next club day is September 9th. This will incorporate the Crawford Cup & the St Johns Shield. Details closer to the time.
Meantime, the track is available the weekend of August 18/19 for practice. There is no race day that weekend due to it being the weekend of our Kartsport National Conference. Details will be on the weekly Friday Blurb.
In our last report we mentioned that our clubs Shifter contingent were going to be in Taranaki this past weekend for the Shifter Series & we made derogatory remarks with regard to the weather in that part of the country. Well we were right!!!
The weather did not daunt this illustrious bunch however & they did the club proud.
Ryan Grant extended his lead in the KZ2 class of the series by qualifying fastest & winning all heats, pre-final & final. In the process he set a new track record – 3 times!!
Graeme Smyth redeemed himself in the All-In Invitation Race – KZ2 & F125S – by winning the 20 lapper. His fastest lap time of the weekend was in the final lap – but what do you expect when Ryan Grant is right behind you!!!!
Also in Taranaki last weekend was the final round of the Rotax Max Challenge. Congratulations go out to Auckland members Daniel Kent, 6th overall in Rotax Light and Brent Gilchrist, 5th overall in Rotax Heavy and 1st in the Masters section.
