Club Day Feb 8 2009

Our first Club Day for 2009 saw another weekend of awesome weather. It was so hot that a group of members hunted out the dummy grid sails and had them up in record time to provide some respite for the drivers waiting to hit the track and also for pit gate officiando Merv.

It was small club day, probably due to many people choosing to make the most of along weekend & heading to beaches. We also had a small contingent of Auckland members travel to Hawkes Bay for the CIK Trophy event.

Race wins in the Cadet Class were shared around during the day with the overall win going to the wire. Dylan Smith took the win on count back from James Murdoch with Lachlan Smith in third & Amy Smith in fourth.

There may only have been three JR’s on track but they had pretty good racing. CJ Sinclair winning from Kaitlyn Wonnacott and Finley McLaren.

Formula Junior & Junior Yamaha were on track together; Matt Derrick & Sean Hurley raced each other exceptionally well with nothing much between them on track all day. Matt went on to win the class from Samantha Lewis followed by Sean.

Junior Yamaha went to Rollo Davies with a clean sweep; Matt Higham took second & Jack barker third.

All the Senior Yamaha’s ran together on the track, and up front in the Lights it was frenetic for the first couple of races. They all settled down eventually & put on some good racing. Blair Holdom was back on track & very quick. It was Scott Burkhart taking the days win, despite a whoops at the last corner of the last lap in heat 2 - done all on his own! Buddy, Nigel Kurtz was second & Blair held onto third.

Our Rotax Heavies were out in force for this first club day of the year; We put the Lights & our lone Open with them on track.

Anthony Murch took the win comfortably from Tim Wakefield who held off Warren Parris on count back. Scott Reddish won the Lights from Andre Elliott.

At the end of the “official” racing we had one of Colleen’s special relays which was a lot of fun & something different. There was more cheering for the run through the pits than there was for the drivers on track!
