Enduro 2007

Enduro racing was re-introduced to the club a couple of years ago. One of the biggest buzzes for the committee at the time was finding the club perpetual trophies and after dusting them off reading the names of the winners in years past. Some trophies had to be replaced but for those of you who won this weekend have a wee read; some of the names you will come across are well known and you can be proud in that your name is going to join them on that trophy.

Just for a change, we’ll do the seniors first and work backwards. After all the seniors were out there on the track for the longest - 2 hours!

Sixteen starters split between Yamaha, Rotax & Open, with Yamaha the predominant engine being run.

Enduro racing tends to bring drivers out of the woodwork – or retirement – or the garden!

In the Open section we had Melissa & Ryan Urban return to Auckland track – neat to see you again – running the new Rotax DD2. Due to a glitch at the start of the race this pairing lost something like 60 laps on the leaders and it was just too much to pull back.

The winners of the Open section were Paul Dunkley and Ivan Selak – combined age of 106 years!! And neither of them looked a day over 40 before the race started!!

In Rotax, it was the speedway sons doing it in karts; Anthony Murch and Adam Wakeling paired up and took the honours from Travis Taylor/Brian Mathews and Warren Parris/Kevin Wylie. Kevin another one from the woodwork whose parting comment on Sunday evening was ‘I’m going to buy another kart’

Yamaha saw a couple of youngsters – Mason Armstrong & Mat Kinsman – take on the perennials (Not pansies!) of John Kelly & Daniel Cropp who were last years Yamaha winners. Unfortunately, the youngsters had a couple of issues so the pans.. – whoops – perennials came out in front. John & Daniel taking the win from Blair Holdom and Lara Greaves with the youngsters in 3 rd. Blair & Lara had an awesome day; you guys drove really well – congrats to Lara on the rating upgrade.

Sunday proved how good the KT100 is & why it has been and still is the backbone of karting – first two teams home overall in the seniors were both Yamahas.

Formula Junior & Junior Yamaha ran together on the track and their race was one hour. There was the option for these kids to either do it on their own or team up and we had a mixture of both.

Jake Connor successfully defended his last years win from Danny Keene in Junior Yamaha with Daniel Colville/Arie Hutton in third.

Levi Madsen-Prinn and Stan Tangaroa-Green – who have been told never to pair up again, you try and get both those names to fit on one line of a certificate! – took out Formula Junior from Mitchell Pykett, driving solo, and the pairing of Dylan Steeples & Jake Bonney

The Junior Restricted Enduro was 45 minutes and was won by Alex Cassidy who drove an absolutely faultless race. Kaleb Currie finished second and Jack Barker – last years Cadet winner – filled third spot.

The Cadets had a half hour race for their enduro. The un-rated cadets ran with the cadets and every one of these guys drove awesome. I bet they all slept well Sunday night!

Kaitlyn Wonnacott took the win from Richard McCarthy and Hayden Hart.

First un-rated home was Steve Barker in fourth spot overall.
