Pool & Spa Mainteance 2022 City of Sails entry numbers are currently sitting at 121 with 12 days left to enter (subject to classes reaching track limits). At the same time last year, there was only 33 entries, and a total of 130 entries when entires closed. Six late entry requests were also turned down last year.
Interesting, many of the 119 entires are from new drivers to the City of Sails event. Many of last years entrants are still to get their 2022 entry in, and in some clases are playing chicken with the track limits.
In terms of classes that have met the minimum entry requirements, and will run, thet are;
- Cadets
- VMR
- Rotax Juniors
- Rotax Lights
- Rotax DD2; and
- KZ2/KZ2 Heavies.
We are starting to watch track limits very closely, so we can jump in and close entries to avoid needing to issue too many refunds.
VMR took an early lead in a race to track limits, but Lights have in recent days closed the gap to just one entry. We predict that VMR and Lights will reach track limits before entries are due to close. Cadets and Junior's may also, along with an outside chance for the combined KZ2/KZ 2 Heavies field.
The good news is, if you miss out due to track limits, you will be able to watch the livestream from home for free.
DVS Juniors are slowing getting to the minumim, but Rakets and DVS Seniors are currently at the highest risk of not running. Heavies have not yet made the minimum, but once Lights reach the track limit, we expect those that missed out in Lights will enter Heavies, as happened at TH Rotorua (remembering that Rotorua has a higher track limit than Giltrap Group Raceway).
This years event triples as the first round of the new KartStars Series and the first round of the Rok Cup. Also, this year the City of Sails is backed up the following weekend with the CIK Troph at Porter Raceway in Hamilton on 5/6 February 2022.
The KartSport Hamilton hosted event will also triple as Round Two of KartStars and the Rok Cup. The back-to-back events provide a great opportuity to southern drivers to bring their gear north once, for two big events. It also provides are great opportunity for Tier 2 licience holders to get their licience upgraded ahead of Nationals.
For those looking for warm-up racing leading up to KartStars, KartSport Whangarei will kick off the summer of racing in the sunny north with Summer Slam 2022. This event will run under Red, so get in early as numbers are restricted.
Finally, do not miss the EBOP/BOP double header club days on 22/23 January.
Mark these events in the Calendar. It is going to be an epic summer of racing.
